| Heinz Offers 366 Days Of Lycopene With Tomatoes 2004 Calendar
November 2003 (Newstream) -- Spreading the word about the health benefits of lycopene, H.J. Heinz Company (NYSE: HNZ) released the Tomatoes 2004 - 24 Lycopene-Rich Recipes for a Great Year calendar. The calendar features lycopene-rich recipes using products such as Heinz Tomato Ketchup, Classico Pasta Sauces and Smart Ones® Bistro Selections. It also teaches consumers about the many health benefits of lycopene - an antioxidant found abundantly in tomatoes and tomato products - and how to incorporate it into their daily diets. Ongoing research has revealed that lycopene may reduce the risk of some kinds of cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and other ailments. Chef Alan McDonald and David Yeung, Ph.D., director of global nutrition, H.J. Heinz Company, jointly authored the calendar and shared their vast scientific and culinary knowledge. The authors recently appeared at the 2003 American Dietetic Association Food & Nutrition Conference & Exhibition where they autographed advance copies. The pair also hosted daily culinary demonstrations featuring Tomato 2004 recipes. "We are thrilled to release this calendar," McDonald said. "Not only is it a visually appealing piece, but it also has 24 healthy recipes that are simple to prepare." McDonald is a corporate chef for Heinz North America, and his distinguished credits include being named 1997 Young Maverick Chef by Restaurant and Institutions magazine. "More information about the health benefits of lycopene is being published in the scientific literature each year, and the more people know, the better. This calendar offers a simple way for consumers to incorporate the antioxidant into their diet without a lot of effort," Dr. Yeung said. As director of global nutrition, H.J. Heinz Company, Dr. Yeung has dedicated his life to helping people all over the world improve their nutrition. His first book, Unlock the Power of Lycopene: REDefining Your Diet for Optimum Health, was published in 2001. In 2002, he authored Great Tomato! 57 recipes for great taste and great health with Certified Master Chef Byron J. Bardy. Tomatoes 2004 features 24 lycopene-rich selections featuring chicken, beef, pork and seafood, as well as vegetarian dishes. Recipes include twists on traditional favorites, like Heinz Ketchup Chicken Chili, to more unusual choices such as Asian-Style Cheese Tortellini with Scallops. Tomatoes 2004 is available for purchase online at knowledgeinanutshell.com, by phone at 1-800-NUTSHELL and at book retailers across the United States. Tomatoes 2004 is a spiral bound calendar published by arpr, inc., of Pittsburgh, Pa., U.S.A. The calendar is priced at $8.95 in the U.S., and $13.95 in Canada. About Heinz H.J.
